A practical intruder alarm maintenance checklist for UK alarm installers, organised by stage. Before the visit: check the maintenance contract, read the site history, update the equipment list and arrange with the customer for the receiving centre and keyholders to know the system is under test. On site: sign in, ask what has changed, put the system on test, then check the control panel, mains, standby battery under load, fuses, power supplies and tampers.

Walk test every detector, door contact and shock sensor, test hold-up devices only under the agreed procedure, and check sounders, strobes and the cut-off. Test each signalling path with the receiving centre, review the event log for false alarms and repeat faults, and go through the user list with the customer.

Finish with a cabling inspection, photos of defects, graded recommendations, a quote for remedials, the customer signature and the next visit due date. The article also explains how to build up the price of a maintenance contract from engineer time, consumables, monitoring and call-out cover, and how to run the checklist, service records, equipment QR labels and recurring visits in KaamCam.
